    Fall Prevention: A Financial Imperative<\/b><\/span><\/p>

    A clinical investigation of medical records has found that 30% of adults age 65 or older have falls annually.\u00a0 The annual U.S. cost of these accidents is estimated at $50 billion. <\/span><\/p>

    With an aging population, fall reduction and prevention technologies are becoming increasingly necessary.<\/span>
    <\/b><\/span><\/p>

    The study was published in the Journal of the American Geriatric Society<\/em>, and looked at data collected on nonfatal falls in the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS), ; the Web-based Inquiry Statistics Query and Reporting System (WISQARS); and the National Health Expenditure Accounts (NHEA).<\/p>

    According to the researchers –\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>

    \u201cA substantial share of healthcare expenditures for adults aged 65 and older was attributable to falls,\u201d accounting for about 6 percent of Medicare expenditures and 8 percent of Medicaid costs<\/u>.<\/p>

    Of the $50 billion dollars spent annually due to senior falls, almost 99 percent was spent on post-fall recovery and associated costs.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
