Sensor Technology To Boost Independence

Gain Safety and Peace of Mind

We are developing cutting edge products that leverage sensors and other technologies
to help patients stay safe by improving stability, balance and their personal independence.

Sensor-Support provides solutions that reduce risks associated with senior falls at home.  These falls cost $50 billion dollars a year, prematurely rob seniors of their independence, the joys of daily activities and peace of mind.

We are developing products that use new and emerging technologies that boost safety and independence while reducing or even eliminating senior falls. Technologies we use include:

Fall Prevention: A Financial Imperative

A clinical investigation of medical records has found that 30% of adults age 65 or older have falls annually.  The annual U.S. cost of these accidents is estimated at $50 billion.

With an aging population, fall reduction and prevention technologies are becoming increasingly necessary.

The study was published in the Journal of the American Geriatric Society, and looked at data collected on nonfatal falls in the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS), ; the Web-based Inquiry Statistics Query and Reporting System (WISQARS); and the National Health Expenditure Accounts (NHEA).

According to the researchers –

“A substantial share of healthcare expenditures for adults aged 65 and older was attributable to falls,” accounting for about 6 percent of Medicare expenditures and 8 percent of Medicaid costs.

Of the $50 billion dollars spent annually due to senior falls, almost 99 percent was spent on post-fall recovery and associated costs.
